Introduction
An X running tool is a special tool used to run and set X/XN type
lock mandrel. It can set the type X/XN lock mandrel into X/XN
landing nipple selectively.

Structure Characteristics
The X running tool consists of fishing neck, inner sleeve, stop
pin, main spring, spring housing, dog spring, split ring, locator
dog, dog housing, crescent slide, retainer dog and mandrel.
Enclosed is the assembly drawing.
Before operation, the retainer dog catches the inner fishing neck
of lock mandrel, and then connect the lock mandrel to the mandrel
by shear pin. Make the crescent slide stuck into the groove of
mandrel to prevent movement.
The locator dog will retreat to the groove of inner sleeve when the
X running tool is entering the landing nipple. After passing
through the landing nipple, the locator dog will expand
automatically with the action of the dog spring.
After passing through the desired landing nipple, pull the
toolstring upwards. The locator dog makes the dog housing move down
to have the locator dog stuck into the groove of the inner sleeve.
At this moment, the crescent slide will release the mandrel and the
lock mandrel key will flick and locate into the keyways of landing
nipple.Jar downwards to shear off the shear pin of X running tool.
Then jar upwards to shear off the shear pin of lock mandrel. Remove
from wellbore.
If type XN landing nipple is below several type X landing nipple,
it is ok to run under the selective model to save the top shear pin
when the packing is running through the seal segment of landing
nipple during jarring. Move to the non-selective model when it is
running in the last type X landing nipple above the type XN landing
nipple.
